Our second APlus Open — I cried twice
Not over wins or losses. Over watching last year’s kids come back — this time as volunteers.
Two days, 96 ties, fourteen courts running dawn to dusk. The final went three games to 23–21 and the whole room stood and roared. That was the first time I cried.
The second time was at pack-down, when I saw a few kids from last year’s draw — in volunteer vests, clearing the courts. Nobody asked them to. They just felt it was their tournament too.
“The best result of a tournament you run yourself isn’t the champion — it’s the people who come back to set up the tables.”
The final three points
